Shaving your intimate area with an electric shaver:
- Choose a good quality shaver like the Intimate Area Shaver . Opt for a good quality shaver rather than a cheap one that is more likely to cause nicks, soreness and razor burns in this sensitive area. There are a lot of poorer quality Chinese made shavers on the market that you should definitely avoid in our opinion.
- Trim pubic hair first, especially if it is thick and long. Use a bikini trimmer like the Remington or small safety blade scissors to trim down the hair to stubble length. Electric shavers will not perform very well if the pubic hair is too long. It is essential to use a good trimmer first. This is the single most common reason for getting poor results from a pubic hair shaver!
- After trimming pubic hair to stubble length, take a shower, making sure your pubic area is thoroughly cleaned and soaked. The warm water will soften the hair making it easier to shave.
- Thoroughly dry the pubic area with a towel and apply talcum powder to keep the area moisture free. Women should avoid getting the talc inside the sensitive areas of the vagina, it can cause irritations.
- Pull the skin taut with your free hand and then shave without applying pressure.
- Shave upwards against the direction of the hair growth.
- If the shaver becomes clogged with hair, Remove the head by unscrewing it and clean the head and blades with a small brush (supplied with most shavers).
- Rinse off the pubic area and look for any remaining patches of hair. Repeat steps 4-7 described above.
- We recommend applying a product like Priva Shave on the bikini line after shaving. It is particularly good if you suffer from ingrown hairs and other post hair removal irritations. Make sure you avoid applying this product directly onto genitalia.
- Keep the shaven area well moisturised between shaves by using a healing moisturiser like Ultra. This will reduce the uncomfortable feeling of stubble which may occur between shaves.
- You may want to consider using a hair inhibitor product like Kalo to reduce the frequency of shaving. It can take some time before hair growth reduction is achieved, but it does make hair softer and thus easier to shave.
Shaving intimate area with a razor:
- Choose a bikini area razor like the curved blade Bikini Plus or a specific bikini area razor, don't use an ordinary safety razor. Opt for a good quality razor rather than a cheap disposable which is more likely to cause nicks, soreness and razor burns in this sensitive area.
- Trim pubic hair first, especially if it is thick and long. Use a bikini trimmer like the Remington Wet & Dry or small safety blade scissors to trim down the hair to about half a centimeter. Trimming the hair will make shaving much easier and will avoid blunting and clogging the razor too quickly.
- Wet a face cloth and lay it over the pubic area for a couple of minutes. Alternatively, take a hot bath or shower and making sure your pubic area is well soaked. Due to the coarseness of pubic hair, softening the hair before shaving provides better results.
- Apply a generous amount of shaving foam or gel over the pubic area and leave for a few minutes to soften the hair further. Ordinary soap is not suitable as it does not lock in the moisture to the hair the way a shaving preparation cream or gel does. Experiment with different brands if you find some cause skin irritation. They contain various chemicals and you need to find one that suits you.
- Pull the skin taut with your free hand and then shave without applying pressure.
- Shave upwards against the direction of the hair growth. Make sure there is sufficient shaving foam or gel on the skin each time you run the razor over your skin. Shaving bare skin can lead to razor burn.
- Rinse the razor every couple of strokes to prevent clogging.
- Keep the shaven area well moisturised between shaves by using a skin moisturiser or baby lotion. This will reduce the uncomfortable feeling of stubble which may occur between shaves.
- After your skin has become accustomed to shaving, try applying a thin layer of Vaseline petroleum jelly instead of a shaving foam or gel. It will give you a really close shave.
- You may want to consider using a hair inhibitor product like Kalo to reduce the frequency of shaving. It can take some time before hair growth reduction is achieved, but it does make hair softer and thus easier to shave.

Waxing your intimate area:
- Avoid bathing or showering and making the pubic hair wet prior to waxing. Hair absorbs the water making it soft and less likely to stick to the wax. Fine/soft hair is less easy to remove using waxing products.
- Conduct a patch test on a small area of skin first to make sure there is no sensitivity or allergic reaction to the product. Please note that not all waxes are suitable for bikini line/pubic hair removal. Buy a good quality bikini/brazilian waxing product like Gigi for example.
- Hair should be between 0.25 - 0.5 centimeters in length. If it isn't wait until it reaches this length. Most waxing products will not work with very short hair as there isn't enough hair to adhere to.
- Wash the skin thoroughly and dry it well to remove any lotions or oils which may prevent the wax from adhering closely to the hair.
- Heat the wax carefully so as not to overheat and thus burn the skin when applying. Patch test on a small area of skin first. The consistency should be soft rather than watery.
- Apply a thin layer of wax in the direction of the hair growth and peel back with a rapid movement close to the skin. Do not pull up or out, instead pull it back.
- Clean the skin with a warm moist towel afterwards to remove excess wax.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing over freshly waxed areas to minimise the risk of irritation. We recommend applying a product like Priva Shave after bikini line waxing. It is particularly good if you suffer from ingrown hairs and other post hair removal irritations. Make sure you avoid applying this product directly onto genitalia.
- 24 to 48 hours after waxing, exfoliate the skin with a loofa sponge or something similar to prevent dead skin from accumulating and causing hair to become ingrown.
- You may want to consider using a hair inhibitor product like Kalo to reduce the frequency of waxing. Please note that it can take some time before hair growth reduction is achieved, but all weapons are welcome in the war against unwanted hair growth.
