Allium cepa, commonly known as onion, is useful not only as a popular ingredient but also for medicinal purposes. It has a long history for its health uses. It is believed to lighten the balance of the blood, firm up muscles, improve the digestive function, relieve headaches, natural cure for cough and hair loss.

Onions are rich in chemical compounds that are believed to have anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

How is onion used for hair loss management?

The juice is extracted by squeezing out the liquid from one medium uncooked onion. This is then evenly spread throughout the scalp and massaged into the hair roots. It is believed that as the juice penetrates the hair roots, it provides the scalp with the necessary nutrients for better hair growth. it contains vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and sulfur which are all needed for healthy growth of hair.

Onions are also known to have antibacterial properties. This is another useful way to control hair loss caused by various infections on the scalp. If you happen to have redness and inflammation on the scalp, then onion extract can help relieve the problem because of its anti inflammatory properties.

However, most people are wary of the unpleasant smell of onions. Vigorous washing with a strongly scented shampoo is the solution for most people. The downside to this is that these often contain additives that can be harsh to the already weak hair.
