Fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K ) and Water soluble vitamins – vitamin C, inocitol, B-complex vitamins (thiamine (B1), riboflavin(B2), niacin(B3), pantothenic acid(B5), biotin(B7), pyridoxine (B6), Folic acid(B9) and cobalamine (B12)). Each vitamin servers a specific function. Having low or high amounts of a particular vitamin, may develop a specific disease. It is important to consume the correct amount of vitamins from our diet or from vitamin supplements.

Which of the vitamins benefit the hair most?

All vitamins are very important; however, there are certain vitamins for hair growth, making hair healthier, grow faster and beautiful.

Vitamin A is proven to make hair grow healthy. It helps in the creation of epithelial cells, thus maintaining beautiful healthy skin. Healthy skin means a healthy scalp, a healthy scalp means healthy growing hair. Good sources of vitamin A are the liver, carrots, potatoes, eggs and spinach.

B-complex vitamins like biotin helps a lot on the growth of hair, it can also help in the general health of the skin and nails. Regular intake of this vitamin strengthen hair and nails and lack of biotin can cause brittle hair and nails. Rich sources of biotin are found in eggs and liver.

Inositol, which is often referred to as an “unofficial vitamin”, have shown to encourage hair growth and protect against hair loss. Many topical hair loss treatment products contain inositol to directly absorb this vitamin on scalp and hair follicles. Inositol is present in nuts, fruits, beans and grains.

Pantothenic acid or panthenol (B5) helps oxidize fatty acids and proteins. This vitamin raises the strength of each hair strands. Research indicates that the lack of pantothenic acid causes skin irritations and dry brittle hair. Good sources of this vitamin can be found on lean meat, whole grains, vegetables and avocado.

Taking vitamin either from your diet or supplements aren’t only good for your body, it’s good for your hair too.
