STRESS AND HAIR FALL

All of use experience stress, it is a part of everyday living, but this becomes a problem when we are constantly exposed to it. Chronic stress can cause a lot of negative changes in the body: behavioral and psychological changes, but does stress cause increased hair fall?

The truth is, stress isn’t really that bad if you know how to deal with it. Chronic stress on the other hand is a different story, it drains a lot of mental and physical energy. Whenever you feel severe anxiety or your body is exposed to extreme physical work, this can manifest in many ways.

When there is exceeding demand for mental or physical work, the body reacts by releasing different hormones. These hormones help by activating all kinds of bodily process that help you cope with these needs. Some hormones temporarily shut down or do not send much nutrients to other parts of the body. The reproductive organs, growth, immune system and even blood flow to the skin and scalp are put on hold to send more nutrients and energy to those parts that are more active. This the reason why prolong stress can make you susceptible to skin diseases, illness and even hair loss.

When we’re under constant stress, we tend to lose hair because of decreased blood flow to the scalp, hence, less oxygenation and nutrient supply to the hair follicles. This suppressed nutrient distribution can cause all the hair follicles to enter the telogen phase, regardless of what stage they are in the hair growth cycle. This condition is called telogen effluvium.

What can you do to stop hair fall due to stress? The simplest way to stop hair fall due to stress is to deal with stress itself. If you live a stressful life, then try to mellow down. Try to identify whatever is causing you stress and learn to deal with it.

Fortunately, telogen effluvium is a temporary. Once the stressful event is overcome hair will eventually grow back as if nothing happened. It takes time to get there though, that’s why the use of a natural hair growth stimulant is a good way to hasten hair growth.
