Similar to vitamins, minerals are also an essential part of nutrition. As a result, is also good in stopping hair fall and as a hair loss treatment. Minerals are important to help keep our body function properly, without them the body will cease to function.

Iron is a very important mineral for cell development and growth. Generally, it is an important part of the red blood cells to carrying oxygen to various tissues and organs of the body, of course this include the scalp. Research has shown that women with iron deficiency anemia then to experience increased hair fall. Also with decreased iron, increased hair fall is also experienced with people who are genetically susceptible to baldness. In contrast, unless a patient has actual iron deficiency, taking iron supplement at high doses is very dangerous and can cause iron overload. Excellent sources of dietary iron are fish, red lean meat, egg yolks, vegetables, nuts, whole wheat and grains.
Calcium and magnesium are need for various bodily processes. Both minerals are important in maintaining the ph balance of the body especially calcium. Magnesium and calcium should always have a proper ratio in which the body automatically regulates. Hair loss occur if there is imbalance between the two minerals. Women mostly suffer from this type of hair loss because of higher levels of calcium in their body, as compared to magnesium.
Zinc is important for a healthy immune system, tissue growth, cellular repair and metabolism. Low levels of zinc can increase susceptibility to infections, decreased tissue growth, skin problems and hair loss. It is best to consume foods rich in zinc to prevent any deficiency. Food sources reach in iron are lean meat, liver, milk, eggs, nuts, whole grains and brown rice.
Another much needed mineral is manganese. Actually, the body needs just a tiny bit of this mineral, but manganese plays an important role in the formation of tissues, calcium absorption and is a component of the antioxidant SOD. Antioxidant help ward of free radicals that damaging tissues and this include hair cells. When there is a deficiency of manganese, skin problems and hair loss can occur. Good sources of this mineral are nut’s, whole grain, cereals and legumes.
It is important to consider all of the above minerals in preventing and treating hair loss. Often time, hair loss can easily be treated by eating a well balanced diet and of course taking daily vitamin and mineral supplements.
