IMPOTENCE CONNECTED TO HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

Posted by Manny Y on 7th Apr 2015

Increasingly more men are presently suffering from the ill effects of Propecia just because they want their hair to grow back.

Propecia is probably the favored hair loss treatment in the market today. Its generic name is finasteride and is very similar to Proscar which is a medication for benign prostatic hyperplasia. The mode of action of Finasteride is by inhibiting the enzyme 5 alpha reductase.

Testosterone is male hormone predominantly produced in the testes. The adrenal glands also produce testosterone and these are found directly on top of the kidneys. However, small amounts of testosterone are produced by the adrenal glands. This is why women also produce this male hormone.

After testosterone is released into the blood stream it is absorbed throughout the body’s tissues. In some organs or specialized tissues, particularly the skin (scalp), epididymis, and prostate, testosterone is converted to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. DHT is a powerful androgen, far more powerful than testosterone and it has a greater affinity to androgen receptors.

Unfortunately, the number one cause of hair loss in both men and women is DHT. In the hair loss world, DHT causes a condition called androgenetic alopecia. For some genetic mishap, people who are susceptible to the ill effects of DHT experience vascular shrinkage in the scalp, adversely affecting the nourishing blood supply of the scalp. This slowly suffocates the hair follicles making them unable to produce the usual thick healthy hair strands.

This is where Propecia comes in. Since it is a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor, testosterone never gets the chance to convert to DHT. In return, patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia see a significant reduction in the enlarged prostate, enabling them to urinate properly. In people who have hair loss problems, there is an observed increase in hair growth.

Then again, the absence of DHT in our system can cause sexual dysfunctions in males. So what would it be, your hair or your sex life? And don’t forget there are other more natural hair loss products that won’t give you these nasty side effects.
