Does Having Greasy Hair Cause Hair Loss
There are so many factors that can cause hair loss. But you must know that the condition of your scalp plays a big part in the health of your hair and inpreventing hair loss.Oily hair and scalp is due to excess sebum. The production of sebum ismanaged by androgens, the most active of which are testosterone and DHT.
There are many reasons behind the production of too much sebum. Males produce slightly more sebum than females. After the teenage years, the production can increase up to fivefold in men. Hormonal problems such as PCOS and endocrine problems also contribute to elevated sebum production. Certain medications and some contraceptivescan also lead to greasy scalp.
When the scalp is oily, hair follicles can be clogged. When the hair follicle isclogged, this can stop hair growth. Later, the hair falls out and there can be no further regrowth in the affected area.
When exposed to dust, an oily scalp also attracts dirt. If the grimy hair and scalp is not cleansed regularly, this can lead to bacterial and fungal growth in the scalp. Occasionally, white flakes or dandruff appears on the scalp. Dandruff, a kind of skin eczema that occurs with high sebum production, can cause temporary hair loss. With continuousscratching, this could damage the hair follicles and eventually, long lasting hair loss occurs. With too much oil production and poor hair hygiene, the scalp can be inflamed. This appears as red and sore scalp. As a result, the hair follicles can stop producing hair or many follicles can be forced into the resting phase of the hair growth cycle. Sometimes, the hair that is produced becomes significantly finer.
One of the most common mistakes is avoiding regular hair washing. A common misconception is that washing the hair often leads to more hair shedding. In fact, if you have oily hair, you need to keep your scalp clean to keep the hair follicles unclogged to encourage healthy hair growth.
If you have oily hair and scalp, choose a deep cleansing shampoo. If you have excessive hair shedding, then a hair loss treatment shampoo will not only remove oil and dirt buildup but will also neutralize DHT on the surface of the scalp.
