Nowadays, everyone is getting a tattoo. The technique of tattooing, which is injecting or stabbing the skin to let the ink permeate into the dermis have been done for many centuries and haven’t changed much.

Unfortunately, this process of skin breaking can leave the affected area prone to infections. Below are signs and symptoms of an infected tattoo:

Unusual Redness

It is normal for a fresh tattoo to be reddish along the margins of the tattoo but if the redness doesn’t go away after a few days, this could be an infected tattoo. Also, if the redness start to spread, this could also mean that the tattoo infected.

Pain

It is normal to experience pain during the tattoo process, but normally pain usually subsides after the tattoo session or after two days. But if you feel pain after two days, or if pain worsen, then this could be a sign of an infection.

Swelling

It if fine if a fresh tattoo is a little bit raised from the skin or sort of like embossed. In time, this will later subside. But if it doesn’t, better have it checked.

The Ooze

It is typical to find clear amber colored fluid oozing from a fresh tattoo. This fluid is called serum, and it is part of the normal process of wound healing. But if you find turbid yellowish or greenish fluid oozing you’re your new tattoo, this can be a serious problem.

The Smell

Now if you see turbid fluid oozing from your tattoo and it smells like rotting flesh, have your tattoo checked up immediately. The foul odor comes from bacteria living within the tattoo.

Fever

If you feel a little bit a fever after getting a tattoo, better visit your doctor before it gets worse.

If you feel that you have a tattoo infection and you have any of the indications above, seek professional help. Do not attempt to self medicate because you can be at risk for more serious problems and complications.
