Minoxidil

Typically sold by the brand name Rogaine or Regaine, this is the first drug that was approved by the FDA to treat male/female pattern hair loss. Finasteride

Finasteride comes in two forms and Propecia is the name to look for to treat hair loss. Also approved the the FDA, this drugs works byinhibiting an enzyme called 5 alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for turning testosterone to dihydrotestesterone (DHT), a very potent androgen that is accountable for androgenetic alopecia. Without this enzyme, testosterone won’t be converted to DHT , therefore preventing DHT induced hair loss. This is taken in pill form.

Saw palmetto is a slow growing palm tree that has been used for centuries by the aboriginal Indians to treat all sorts of urinary problems. Presently, the extracts have been shown to inhibit DHT, somewhat similar effect as finasteride.
