Hair loss is doesn’t just affect the elderly. In fact, hair loss can occur at any age, and affects all race and sex. Though, hair loss doesn’t cause any physical harm and doesn’t cause any health issues to an individual, having hair loss at a young age can affect one emotionally.
Below are some common causes of hair loss that can occur at any age:
Hormones. These chemical messengers are very important in keeping the body working the way it should, but there are conditions when elevated amounts of hormones are needed, like during pregnancy. But after giving birth, hormones get back to their normal levels and this sudden change can cause a condition called telogen effluvium, which causes alarming hair loss. Fortunately, this condition is temporary.
Extreme Dieting. Our hair cells are considered one of the fastest growing cells in the body. This means these cells need a constant supply of nutrients, especially protein because this is what hair is mostly made of. If you’re on a low protein diet and want to have healthy growing hair, consider shifting to a different diet plan that does not restrict protein intake. Also, extreme dieting is worst for hair; the lack of food intake makes hair very dull, dry and can even cause hair thinning and hair loss. Luckily, going back to your regular diet will reverse this.
Stress. Stress is one common contributor of hair loss and hair thinning. Stressful events in the work place or school could cause all sorts negative effects on the body, like hormonal imbalance, high blood pressure and many more. These abnormalities can affect hair growth causing increased hair fall and hair loss.
Heat Styling. The use of heat when styling can damage hair. Blow driers, hair curlers and especially ceramic hair straighteners can reach temperatures so high, they literally vaporize the little moisture the hair holds, leaving hair very dry and prone to breakage. It is advisable use these heat styling on special occasions or at low settings.
