HOW TO HELP CHILDREN WITH HAIR LOSS?
Posted by Manny Y on 6th Apr 2015
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that helps help children with chronic hair loss. Some of the children are cancer patients who unfortunately have to undergo chemotherapy but mostly, the donations go to children with alopecia areata. This is an auto-immune disorder that attacks the hair follicles causing patchy to total hair loss. The cause of alopecia areata is still unknown. Locks of Love provides hairpieces to children for free, their goal is to help build and increase their self confidence and esteem, enabling them to face their peers.
If you would like donate your hair to Locks of Love, here are some guidelines:
• Hair has to be at least 10 inches or longer. This is the minimum requirement to make a hair piece, anything shorter is not acceptable. Curly hair should be pulled straight to meet the minimum requirements.
• Hair needs to be braided or in a ponytail before donating. Hair that is stored for years is acceptable as long as it is in a ponytail or braid.
• Before cutting, hair must be clean and dry.
• Hair must be placed inside of a plastic bag and then inside a padded envelope.
Also, there are many hair salons that will cut your hair free of charge if you wish to donate your hair to charity.
For those who want to help out and donate again, it will take at least 10 months to a year to grow your hair at least 10 inches. But don’t worry; a clever way to make those long months shorter is to hasten the growth of your hair by using FAST. FAST or Fortified Amino Scalp Therapy is made of natural herbs and essential amino acids plus B-complex vitamins to provide all the nutrients the hair needs for healthy accelerated hair growth. FAST is specially formulated to grow your hair faster – up to 45% faster.
