CAN DANDRUFF LEAD TO HAIR LOSS?

Dandruff is a common scalp condition characterised by the presence of visible flakes. The cause of this excessive flaking may be a fungal infection usually with Malassezia, an underlying condition like psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis, and overproduction of sebum.
The sebacious glands are responsible for the production of sebum, these glands are always partnered with a hair follicle. Sebum acts as a natural moisturiser to prevent the skin from drying out and keep the hair moisturised. Too much sebum production on the scalp can produce a thick layer of dead skin cells and oil. The resulting lump of flakes suffocates the hair follicles. Also, the oily accumulation of dead cells can encourage fungal and even bacterial growth.
When this occurs, the scalp will become severely irritated, itchy, and inflamed. If the sebum and flake buildup is not removed, you will have a very itchy scalp. Continuous scratching can cause minute abrasions on the scalp and the skin break is prone to infection.
Chronic dandruff not only blocks the hair follicles but the resulting inflammation can damage follicles, leading to considerable hair fall and eventually hair loss on affected areas of the scalp.
The easiest way to manage dandruff is to use a hair loss treatment shampoo. Why a hair loss treatment? Because it treats your dandruff and stimulate hair at the same time. A mild deep cleansing shampoo like Nisim Shampoo will effectively get rid of the excess sebum without drying or damaging the hair and scalp. Nisim will provide gentle cleansing and because it has a unique blend of essential amino acids, B vitamins, and organic herbs, it will nourish the hair and promote hair growth.
