Multivitamins have been said to help people with hair loss. The B vitamins, most especially are important for healthy hair growth.
Biotin or Vitamin B7 will help keep hair from falling out. It is found in various foods such as salmon, liver, eggs, oats, cauliflower, tomatoes, carrots, brewer’s yeast, soybeans, sunflower seeds, walnuts, and lettuce.
Inositol is yet another B vitamin that is required for hair growth. A deficiency in inositol can lead to patchy baldness and eczema. Good sources of this b vitamin are peanuts, cabbage, grapefruit, raisins, molasses, milk, whole grains, and citrus fruits.
Vitamin B3, niacin, or nicotinic acid can enhance the thickness of the hair. Niacin is also important in the proper circulation of the blood. Good blood circulation means better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body, including the hair cells. Food sources of niacin are beef, chicken, tuna, salmon, milk, eggs, tomatoes, leafy vegetable, sweet potatoes, carrots, whole grains, mushrooms, and nuts.
Another essential B vitamin is vitamin B5, also called Pantothenic acid or pantothenate. The name Pantothenic comes from Greek pantothen which means from everywhere. Almost all food contains at least a small amount of vitamin B5. Foods with high amounts of this water soluble B vitamin are whole grain cereals, meat, eggs, legumes, cauliflower, sunflower seeds, broccoli, turnip greens, and mushrooms.
Pyridoxine is one of the compounds that can be called vitamin B6. This vitamin is important for keeping the eyes, skin, and hair healthy. It is also said to keep the keratin in hair and nails intact. A deficiency in vitamin B6 can result to dry and brittle hair. Usually, people who lack this vitamin also have dry lips and dry tongue. Skin and scalp symptoms include eczema and seborrheic dermatitis. Excellent food sources are bell peppers, spinach, and turnip greens. One can also get this vitamin from salmon, tuna, asparagus, broccoli, chicken, banana, and potatoes.
These B vitamins are essential for healthy hair growth and hair loss prevention. Remember that it is always better to go natural, getting these from food sources or using vitamin enriched organic shampoos that work to feed the hair to keep it strong and lustrous.
