Alopecia areata is the primary cause of hair loss and this kind of hair loss is passed on from one generation to the other. That is why sometimes, even teens start to experience hair loss. The hair loss gene decides when increasing hair fall begins, so if the gene is programmed to start at a young age, especially teenagers, then hair loss is experienced early on.
The reason behind Alopecia areata is due to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone or commonly known as DHT. In reality, DHT isn’t all to blame since this hormone has a very important role in our body especially on men’s sexuality. The truth is that the hair follicles themselves are genetically sensitive to DHT. This is true because doctors have noticed that some patients with elevated DHT in their blood do not suffer from hair loss while other patients who suffer from hair loss have low blood levels of DHT. It is safe to conclude that the hair follicles themselves are sensitive to DHT no matter the amount.
To stop hair loss, one must stop the production of DHT since merely decreasing its amount doesn’t change anything. Actually there are a lot hair loss treatment products in the market today that inhibit the production of DHT. A very popular product totally halts DHT production since it systemically alters the conversion of DHT from testosterone. As a result, it really stimulates hair growth but the problem is it causes erectile dysfunctions in some men.
To effectively stop the effects of DHT on the scalp, it’s best to stop it locally rather than systemically. The best way to do this is to use a topical anti DHT. These products are commonly found as an aqueous solution or as a shampoo and conditioner. This technique stimulates hair growth safely and without the undesirable side effects.
