A Common Skin Condition That Causes Hair Loss

causes hair lossLupus erythematosus is medical condition identified under autoimmune conditions. Lupus can affect different areas of the body such as the joints, blood cells, skin, and scalp. However, this skin condition causes hair loss.

Skin rashes are generally seen, known as butterfly rash because of the characteristic red rash over the malar area and the bridge of the nose. Sometimes, blisters may be present.

In almost half of people with lupus, some form of hair loss can be experienced over the course of the disease. Generally, loss of hair happens at the beginning of the illness. Oftentimes, hair loss occurs even before the condition is diagnosed. Hair can gradually thin out, fall out as clumps, or may also involve the lashes, eyebrow, and other body hairs. Sometimes, hair loss can even be caused by lupus medications.

When lupus is handled successfully, the hair will certainly grow back in several weeks. However, since lupus has a tendency to flare back up. In such instances, hair loss can occur again.
