Saaf’s belief in setting the gold standard for pure and natural skincare has resulted in Saaf having more accreditations than any other skincare range in the UK market! The accreditations are proof of the highest level of Ethics in Action. Only companies that can demonstrate this highest level of commitment and integrity are awarded these coveted accreditations, and Saaf is proud that its products have met the extremely exacting standards set by the following accrediting bodies:
Organic Certified
Soil Association has the highest and strictest organic standards in the world, and, in keeping with the Saaf ethos of striving for the very best, Saaf has worked with the Soil Association to ensure its products have been grown and produced to the exacting Soil Association standards. This means that the Soil Association has carried out exhaustive checks and audits on Saaf formulations, raw materials, and manufacturing facility.
Halal Certified
In Saaf’s quest for ultimate purity, the Saaf range is also certified by the UK Halal Food and Cosmetics Consultancy. This guarantees that Saaf products do not contain any animal derived ingredients; are free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), irradiated raw materials and no alcohol is used either as a raw material or during the manufacturing process. The Saaf manufacturing unit uses non-alcoholic sanitiser and Saaf always obtains signed certificates from its suppliers, stating that its raw materials are Halal.
Alcohol Free
Saaf has gone to great lengths to obtain official declarations from suppliers to ensure that all of their raw materials are guaranteed alcohol free. For many, that might be good enough, but Saaf goes even further, ensuring also that no aliphatic alcoholic cleaners or hand sanitisers are used during the manufacturing process. Saaf also takes the utmost care and precaution in sourcing the necessary raw material, making sure that Saaf essential oils are steam distilled rather than extracted chemically, to ensure that no alcohol is used at any stage of production.
GMO Free
All Saaf raw materials are 100% guaranteed free from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO).
Caring for the Earth as well as for your skin, is of utmost concern to Saaf. Saaf products are highly concentrated and multi-functional, meaning less environmental waste in terms of packaging. Saaf Skincare is mostly packaged in glass, for a low environmental impact. The cartons are recyclable. Saaf only uses natural raw materials sourced from ethical, certified organic suppliers. These are 100% Natural, vegetarian, alcohol-free, non-irradiated, and free from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Nothing Saaf uses is tested on animals – all their products are willingly ‘people-tested’. And because each product only contains the ingredients it needs to function beautifully, there is little chance of your skin reacting adversely – for instance, there is no perfume added just for the sake of it. All you smell is the natural and elusive fragrance of the botanics used in formulation. In addition, all Saaf skincare complies with the EU Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations. Very reassuring for sensitive skin.
Vegetarian Certified
All Saaf products are 100% guaranteed free from animal derived raw materials and certified as 100% Vegetarian by the Vegetarian Society
Vegan Registered
Saaf products have gone through the rigorous checks carried out by the Vegan Society to guarantee the authenticity of its claims. With the exception of those which contain Beeswax, all of Saaf products are registered with the Vegan Society.
Cruelty Free Certified
Many companies state that they do not conduct animal testing, but for Saaf this does not go far enough. Since its creation over 4 years ago, Saaf has neither conducted its own animal testing nor has Saaf asked others to do so on its behalf. And, being a manufacturer of ethical skincare products, Saaf makes every effort to carefully source raw materials, with Saaf new suppliers expected to provide a statement declaring their non-animal testing policy. Saaf has submitted its formulations and raw material supplier declarations to Naturewatch, who fully endorse the Saaf range as being Cruelty Free. Saaf's fixed cut off date (FCOD) is January 2004. So who does test Saaf products? The answer is, willing human volunteers. And the products are only put into production when these willing testers have confirmed that the products do what Saaf claims they do.

Why Organic
Why should I use organic beauty products?
While we regularly scan food labels for ingredients, but how many of us take the time to do the same with skincare products? Looking good on the outside has never been so hazardous for our health and well-being. Thousands of personal care products and cosmetics, have come under the microscope and some have now been banned by the European Union. These include phthalates, commonly found in deodorants and perfumes, and linked to reproductive abnormalities in animals, petrochemical derived ingredients, some of which are now recognised as hormone disrupters, and can result in PMS, endometriosis and other hormonal dysfunctions.‘Alcohols’ in skincare have come under investigation, as most are petroleum derivatives and can be toxic. Skin lighteners such as Kojic Acid and Hydroquinone are known to cause cancer in laboratory animals. Many of the petrochemical based ingredients are fat soluble and can go through the skin barrier, into your blood stream and end up being stored in your body's fat cells. Have you ever wondered why following an aggressive weight loss program, you end up with skin eruptions? It gets worse, these chemicals can also get stored in the fatty breast tissue, and passed onto your baby through breast feeding. If you care to read food labels, we recommend you take your grooming / beauty purchases as seriously.
Many of today’s beauty products are made up of varying mixtures of synthetically produced chemicals. The skin is the largest organ in your body. Individual ingredients vary in their ability to penetrate the skin, some are absorbed in tiny amounts while some can reach the blood vessels below the skin and be transported around the body. While one product may contain very small amounts of some of these ingredients, it is the cumulative effect of applying various products regularly that causes concern.
Over the past few years there have been certain cosmetic ingredients that have been highlighted in the media due to their links with health scares which has led some people to choosing organic as a safer alternative. In addition people that suffer from sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema or psoriasis report that organic skin care products work better for them as they contain either tiny amounts of synthetic chemicals, or no synthetic chemicals at all.
Parents are increasingly choosing organic products for their babies and children as their bodies are still developing and are more susceptible to chemicals in non-organic products and more likely to develop allergic reactions to ingredients such as fragrances. Others choose organic products because they eat organic food, and want to continue to support the positive benefits environment that their organic choices make.
Many choose organic beauty products simply because they find they work better!
I’ve seen lots of health and beauty products in the shops claiming to be organic - how do I know that they really are organic?
In the EU, all food must be certified as organic, before it can be sold as organic, according to European law. However, this regulation does not extend to non food products such as textiles and beauty products. Therefore a company can label or describe a product as organic even if they only contain tiny amounts of organic ingredients and other ingredients that are linked to health concerns and prohibited under organic standards.
To ensure a product is organic, look for a certification body logo, such as the Soil Association symbol.
Saaf products are all organically certified so you can buy in the knowledge you really will benefit your skin. Completely natural and organic, each Saaf product contains only the finest of nature’s skin-supporting ingredients - scientifically researched worldwide to confirm that they are amongst the most potent natural anti-oxidants and anti-agers. Saaf skincare is formulated to make a long-term, beautiful difference to the skin you have now.
It is recommended to purchase certified organic products (i.e. the whole product is certified, not just some of the ingredients). Be aware of ‘Certified Organic Ingredients’ as the final product may contain some harmful synthetic ingredients. As a general rule, be cautious of ‘Natural Products’, unless they are marked 100% natural – even this is scientifically debatable. Products manufactured in the EU and the US are more likely to be compliant with Cosmetics Safety Regulations as penalties for not complying can be severe. Always look out for well known and recognised accreditations/logos on the product, beware that many companies self certify their products! And lastly, always look at the ingredient list on the carton.
“If up to 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed into the body, why not use this to your advantage, and feed your skin with healing and beneficial organic oils?”
